Will it be possible to solve the energy crisis with a nuclear fusion reactor?
As a world we are now facing a global crisis. This is because we are limited in the materials, we use to make energy. We have not had an advantage in generating power. For the reason, fossil fuels will run out before the end of human civilization. Although we currently produce electricity through nuclear power, the nuclear fuel used for this and waste emitted are highly radioactive.
So, we can use nuclear fusion as a solution to this. Today , all life on this earth exists because of the power we get from this kind of nuclear fusion reaction. Don’t think too much, I say. That is our sun. This nuclear fusion reaction occurs when Hydrogen gas is placed in a chamber under very high pressure and very high temperature. At that time, hydrogen gas turn into ions. The nuclei of the hydrogen atom can collide with each other and become the nucleus of the Helium atom. So, in this reaction, mass loss occurs, and in proportion to this mass loss, a huge amount of energy is released. We can use one to generate electricity.
Don’t ask stupid questions, it doesn’t explode. Also, the helium gas coming out here is an inert gas, so it’s 100% safe. On December 05,2021, a group of scientists tested this type of nuclear fusion reactor at LAWRENCE LIVERMORE. Anyway, the energy that went to the laser that went to ignite this was 2.05MJ. Of course, the energy released is 3.15MJ. the energy gain is 1.1MJ. We got 154% energy efficiency.
I know this is not enough to heat a water, but this is a big victory for us, We can say that this is clean energy. I’m not sure if Tony Stark (Iron Man) has one of these in the Marvel Avengers movie. If anyone Knows, please comment.
